CityU Urban Planning Monograph Published by World Renowned Publisher Springer

“Sustainable Industrial Landscape Plan and Design”, an English monograph by Assistant Professor Zhou Long from the Faculty of Innovation and Design at the City University of Macau, has recently been published by Springer.

Founded in 1842, Springer is largest publishers of technology books and the second largest publisher of technology journals globally. Its publications cover a wide range of academic disciplines, including natural science, social sciences, medicine and architecture etc. The publisher attaches great importance to quality content, professionalism of its staff and quality of services.

 

Assistant Professor Zhou Long’s monograph is a publication of the “Academic Studies Series of the City University of Macau”, an achievement in CityU’s process of transformation from a teaching university to research university. Pursuant to the “Methods for Promoting Research” of the University, a specific fund for research projects has been set up for quality academic publications. Dozens of Chinese, English and Portuguese academic works have been published by renowned Mainland and overseas publishers these two years, significantly raising the international visibility and reputation local university scholars in related academic areas.

The monograph is an achievement of the practical application of CiyuU’s planning and design programs . It combines the research methods of cross academic disciplines within the research framework of urban science and sustainable development, transform the advanced concepts and thinking into practical applications in industrial heritage protection and revitalization to provide new scientific approaches and application examples for striking a balance between protection of cultural heritage, urban development and ecological protection.

The CityU programs in arts and design, urban planning and design, design, fine arts cover courses in and research on heritage science and conservation.  These courses place emphasis on the combination of teaching, research and implementation, promoting transformation of teaching and research output into practical applications.  The University has been granted approval by the Ministry of Science and Technology to set up the Sino-Portugal Joint Laboratory in Science of Cultural Heritage Conservation supported by The Belt and Road Initiative, the first national joint laboratory on Belt and Road in Macau.  The Laboratory is closely linked to the three major positionings of the Macao SAR and it will organically combine the “Belt and Road" national strategy with the regional development positioning of “Sino-Portugal Platform”, bring together the research and conversation capabilities of the three world heritage cities of Macao, Suzhou and Evora. The City University of Macau will continue to conduct research on the issue of “cities’ in accordance with its positioning of a “metropolitan university” and explore the strategy of balancing between urban conservation and development to perform its role as a special think tank that serves the city.
