The Seminar on Social, Economic and Foreign Relations Development of the Macao SAR and Book Launch of City University of Macau Are Successfully Held

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the return of Macao, the "Seminar on Social, Economic and Foreign Relations Development of the Macao SAR and Book Launch of City University of Macau" hosted by CityU and China Social Science Press was held on May 31st in CityU.

Director-General Gou Renmin of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Director Zheng Xin You of the Department of Public Diplomacy and Information of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region, President Zhao Jianying of China Social Science Press, Vice Chairman Zhong Yi of the Macao Foundation Executive Council, Rector Shu Guang Zhang of CityU, Pro-Rector Ip Kuai Peng, Assistant to Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Major Project Publishing Center Wang Yin of China Social Science Press, Director Lin Yueqin of the Communication Center of Social Science in China Press and other leaders and distinguished guests attended the book launch. Rector Shu Guang Zhang, President Zhao Jianying and Vice Chairman Zhong Yi addressed the book launch.

                     

Rector Shu Guang Zhang said that the research institutions of CityU, including the Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries, the Macau "One Belt, One Road" Research Center, and the Ministry of Education of China Key Research Base - Research Center for Social and Economic Development of Macao, have coordinated with each other and achieved sound results in Macao's social studies, providing great reference for the Macao SAR Government, industry and academia, continuously facilitating the building of the "China-PSCs Platform" in Macao, and providing intellectual support for China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the development of the "Belt and Road" initiative.

                      

President Zhao Jianying said that the six academic works published by CityU's scholars presented a valuable gift for the return of Macao and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR. It is a "glorious responsibility" for Macao to fully support the construction of the platform, practice "what is needed in the country and what Macao excels at", cooperate with the national diplomatic strategies, contribute to the overall development of the country, and further enhance external activities under the authority of the central government. In addition, it is an obligatory duty of contemporary Macao scholars to timely summarize the past successful experience, explore the law of development, and provide excellent research results that can stand the test of practice. China Social Science Press can contribute to the promotion of the academic exchanges between Macao scholars and the Mainland, the dissemination of China's voices, and the publicity of Macao under "One Country, Two Systems".

                    

Vice Chairman Zhong Yi acknowledged the remarkable achievements of City University of Macau in academic research in recent years and said that the Macao Foundation will continue to support and promote local academic research. She hoped that college scholars can further study Macao, find the right entry point, leverage their own unique advantages to actively carry out cooperation with well-known publishing houses and academic institutions in the Mainland, and improve Macao's academic research through cooperation to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

                     

Subsequently, Professor Ip Kuai Peng, Pro-Rector of City University of Macau, Li Hongjiang, Course Coordinator of the School of Law, Lin Deqin, Course Coordinator of the Faculty of Finance, Lyu Dongjuan, Assistant Professor of the School of Law, Wang Yin, Assistant to Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Major Project Publishing Center of China Social Science Press, and Lin Yueqin, Director of the Communication Center of Social Science in China Press respectively delivered keynote speeches on topics such as the "social, economic and foreign relations of Macao since its return", "legal protection, policy coordination and technical support for financial security in the Macao SAR", "coping with aging population in the Macao SAR", "exploration of law issues of pathological gambling", "analysis of book publishing experience" and "analysis methods and contribution techniques of core journals".

The six newly published academic works of CityU include: Jung and Chinese Culture by Shen Heyong and Gao Lan; Exploration of Law Issues of Pathological Gambling by Lyu Dongjuan; Study on National Conditions of Portuguese-speaking Countries and the Important Role of Macao by Ip Kuai Peng, Sheng Jian and Zhang Liying; Research on Legal Protection, Policy Coordination and Technical Support for Financial Security in the Macao SAR by Lou Shiyan, Li Hongjiang and Lin Deqin; Research on Aging Population in the Macao SAR by Ip Kuai Peng, Wang Xin and Lin Deqin; Authorized Platform for Foreign Cooperation - A Study of Macao's Foreign Relations under "One Country, Two Systems" by Ip Kuai Peng.
