CityU Scholar Translated Authoritative Publication in Analytical Psychology

A Chinese translation of “A Critical Dictionary of Jungian Analysis” was recently published by the China Renmin University Press.  It was translated by Assistant Professor Ying Zhehua and reviewed by Dean Shen Heyong of the Institute of Analytical Psychology at the City University of Macau. Prof Shen is also a renowned psychologist.

“A Critical Dictionary of Jungian Analysis” was jointly compiled by three internationally renowned Jungian scholars. It is a classic work that systematically introduces the keywords of Jungian psychology. The original English version of this book was published in 1986 by Routledge, the largest global academic publisher in the field of humanities and social sciences.  Since its publication, the book has been highly rated and has indisputably become an important professional reference material in the field of analytical psychology.  It is also a very authoritative introductory guide.

Jungian psychology has always placed emphasis on the exploration of human psychological activities and phenomena from the perspective of the integration of Eastern and Western cultures. CityU was the first university to introduce Jungian Analytical Psychology into Macau and it has gradually developed into an important research center for analytical psychology in the Asia-Pacific region in Macau’s environment where Eastern and Western cultures meet. The publication of this book will introduce Jungian psychology theory to more people and build an even more solid foundation for the Institute of Analytical Psychology and the psychology profession of CityU.

Since its establishment, the CityU Institute of Analytical Psychology has published a number of monographs and translation works, including the “The Garden of Heart and Soul: Sandplay and Art Psychotherapy Series" (心靈花園:沙盤遊戲與藝術心理治療叢書), “Psychology of the Heart” (核心心理學) and “Selected Works of Jungian” (榮格文集), also published by the China Renmin University Press. It has made significant achievements and holds a leading position in the field. Over the years, the Institute has been rooted in Chinese culture and has promoted and led the development of psychoanalysis, sandyplay, dream work, study on imagery in mainland China and the four places on both sides of the strait. It is committed to cultivating high-level researchers and practitioners in psychoanalysis well as Chinese psychoanalysts and sandplay therapists with corresponding international qualifications. In addition, the Institute respectively held the International Conferences of Analytical Psychology and Chinese Culture in 2012 and 2015 and attracted dozens of participants from more than 20 countries, making them the unprecedented events in the psychology profession in Macao.

Assistant Professor Ying Zhehua, the translator of this book, is a young psychology scholar groomed at CityU. She has been a Professional Level Accredited Interpreter/Translator of NAATI, Australia for over ten years, a member of the Chinese Federation of Analytical Psychology and the Chinese Society for Sandplay Therapy.  She has also served as a simultaneous interpreter and interactive interpreter at the  International Conferences of Analytical Psychology and Chinese Culture held in different years, National Conference of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy, workshops organized by the Chinese Federation for Analytical Psychology and lectures given by overseas and Mainland scholars in Guangdong and Macao. Assistant Professor Ying has also translated and edited the translation of hundreds of thousands of words of various materials between Chinese and English.

Founded in 1955, the China Renmin University Press was the first university press after the People’s Republic of China was established.  Over these 60 years, as one of the most important publishers for university textbooks and academic works in China, it has published more than 10,000 excellent textbooks and academic works.  It was designated by the Ministry of Education as a publishing center of college textbooks in 1982, won the first Government Publishing Award for Leading Chinese Publisher in 2007and became one of the first Top 100 National Publishers in 2009.
